Talc is a core additive for all types of ceramics as it improves the vitrification process, allowing you to reduce firing temperatures and shorten firing cycles.
The role of talc in the ceramics process depends on its interaction with other minerals in the formulation where it has an influence on the following parameters:
1.Porosity (water absorption, etc.)
2.Color after firing
3.Thermal shock
4.Moisture expansion
5.Thermal expansion – CTE
6.Mechanical resistance (MoR)
7.Shrinkage (drying, firing, total shrinkage)
Combined with feldspar or calcium carbonate in the production of traditional ceramics, talc forms a highly effective eutectic flux, facilitating fast firing and lowering energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
